How's this for a turnover of players?...

Derry manager Collie McGurk

Derry will have just three of their Nicky Rackard Cup winning team in action for the national hurling league throw-in.

From the team that defeated Armagh in last summer's championship decider, only Alan Grant, Oisin McCloskey and Paul Cleary remain on board as the Oak Leaf County prepare for their Division 2B opener against Down at Celtic Park on Sunday.

As many as twelve players have retired - including the brilliant Ruairi Convery - while manager Collie McGurk is also currently shorn of his Slaughtneil contingent as well as Cuala's Cian Waldron.

An injection of youth means Derry will be going into the new season with a truly new-look side.
