There was a bonanza of midweek action tonight, with 14 matches taking place across four competitions.

The Dr McKenna Cup and Connacht senior football league both commenced, with some of the stand-out fixtures including Down V Armagh, Donegal V Queen's, perennial winners Tyrone's meeting with Antrim and the Fermanagh-Monaghan derby as well as Sligo V Galway and Roscommon's trip to Leitrim.

In Leinster, we had second-round action in both football and hurling - three mouth-watering clashes in the Walsh Cup and three more in the O'Byrne Cup. In hurling, Kilkenny travelled to Laois, Dublin faced Meath and Wexford took on Carlow. Meanwhile, the Dublin footballers opened their defence of the O'Byrne Cup at home to Offaly, while Kildare entertained Louth and Meath were in Carlow.
