Slaughtneil welcome two-week gap between semis

Assistant football manager John Joe Kearney has welcomed confirmation that there will be a two-week break between Slaughtneil's All-Ireland club SHC and SFC semi-finals in February.

Owing to the large number of dual players involved with both teams, the football semi-final against Nemo Rangers has been pushed back a week to February 24, with the hurling semi-final against Na Piarsaigh fixed for a fortnight earlier on February 10. The GAA made similar arrangements last year when the Robert Emmet's were also involved in the two semi-finals.

"We're really happy and it's good to see they have taken us into consideration," Kearney told the Irish News.

"It's a big plus for us. Of course that is provided that everyone comes through the hurling game with no injuries. That's always a wee fear you have when you have nince or 10 dual players, but we have lived with that for four or five years now.

"It's a long time before the games, but it's a nice bonus that they have made their minds up so early."
