Donoghue crowned Philips Sports Manager of the Year

Galway All-Ireland winning manager Micheál Donoghue has been named as the Philips Sports Manager of the Year for 2017.

Donoghue saw off the other eleven monthly winners to become the first hurling manager since Liam Sheedy in 2010 to claim the award. 

The other nominees included Jim Gavin, Kieran Kingston, horse trainers Willie Mullins, Jessica Harrington, Aidan and Joseph O'Brien, soccer managers Chris Hughton, Brendan Rodgers and John Caulfield, basketball's Mark Scannell and in cycling Brian Nugent.

Previous GAA winning managers include: Jim Gavin (2013), Liam Sheedy (2010), Mickey Harte (2005), Brian Cody (2003), Joe Kernan (2002), Sean Boylan (1999), Liam Griffin (1996), Ger Loughnane (1995), Brian McEniff (1992), Pete McGrath (1991), Billy Morgan and Fr Michael O'Brien (1990), Mick O'Dwyer (1984) and Pat Henderson (1982).
