Dr Crokes are hoping their East Kerry O'Donoghue Cup semi-final against local rivals Legion will be rescheduled after they refused to field yesterday.

The All-Ireland club champions decided on Thursday night not to play the game as it could impact on their preparations for next Sunday's Munster final against Nemo Rangers in Pairc Ui Rinn.

A statement posted on the Killarney club's Facebook page by secretary Paul Downey read: "I am to inform you that at a meeting tonight of the Dr Crokes  Club Executive it was decided that we will not be participating in the scheduled O'Donoghue Cup semi-final versus Killarney Legion on Sunday next, 19th November.

"We have taken this decision because of the close proximity of our game against Nemo Rangers in the final of the Munster Senior Club competition listed for Sunday 26th November. Please understand that we fully respect the status of the O'Donoghue Cup but we feel that we should not involve ourselves in a game that may compromise our preparation for a Munster final and our defence of our All Ireland title.

"This should not be misconstrued  as meaning that we are conceding the game to Killarney Legion and we would earnestly request that East Kerry CCC take all possible steps to reschedule the game to a date after the Munster final."

The East Kerry CCC will meet tomorrow night to discuss what course of action to take.
