Armagh ace Jamie Clarke will return to action "when he is ready", according to manager Kieran McGeeney.

Clarke, who moved to New York earlier this year, recently hinted at a return to the Orchard County's colours for 2017 and is expected home this Christmas.

However, McGeeney says he won't be rushing the Crossmaglen man back into action straight away.

"Jamie will come back when he is ready," the former All-Ireland winning captain told the Irish News.

"You don't push him into anything. He is free spirit that way. He is a good lad and he will make up his own mind."

On whether or not veteran Tony Kernan would be returning to the squad in 2017, McGeeney added: "I know Tony is playing with Ulster at the minute, so I haven't got speaking to him. I think we will leave him until after Christmas, he will have to make his own mind up."
