Kieran McGeeney is staying calm, despite Armagh's poor start to the Allianz League.

Defeats to Meath and Laois in their first two games has some Orchard County supporters fearing a quick return to Division 3 could be on the cards.

"We missed a couple of points at a crucial stage, I felt, and we weren't controlling the ball well," the Armagh manager said after Saturday night's surprise home loss to Laois.

"Obviously we have big matches to come and it's disappointing that we have not picked up any league points yet. We have players still out injured who we would like to have back on board but we can't rush things.

The 2002 All-Ireland winning captain cited Armagh's missed chances at the second half, which included a Gavin McParland shot that hit the post, as having a crucial bearing on the outcome.

"We missed two points in that period as well, we weren't controlling the ball, we were kicking long aimless balls in, which we shouldn't have been doing, we were told not to do that. Once we started to control the ball, we controlled the game, but it was 15 minutes in before we started doing that.

"I'd just be disappointed in a lot of it - we should have had that game wrapped up, definitely should have, in the beginning of the second half we should have been gone [clear]," he ruefully reflected.
