Joe Kernan says padded goalposts could be introduced after Ronan Clarke's horror injury.
Clarke, who was one of the stars of the Armagh team that Kernan managed to All-Ireland glory in 2002, spent five days in intensive care after colliding with a goalpost while playing for his club Pearse Og against Maghery last Friday night.
"The safety of players is the most important thing," the Irish manager said at the launch of the EirGrid International Rules series yesterday.
"I'm sure it will be something that's looked at. Thank God it hasn't happened too often. Maybe we can get a post with less padding on it. There are a lot of the posts that are steel, maybe that can be changed either.
"I'm sure the people who should be looking after it will, and have been looking at that since the weekend."
Kernan is delighted that Clarke's condition is improving.
"I've been talking to his family. I was talking to his father yesterday and he (Ronan) was sitting up talking, which is great," he continued.
"He's out of danger, but he still has a bit to go. Thank God he's out of danger. It could happen anywhere but Ronan, being the lad that he is, played on. That's just the way he is. Thank God they got him to hospital and got him seen to."
