Former Footballer of the Year Stevie McDonnell has come out of retirement.
McDonnell, who kicked the winning point for Armagh in the 2002 All-Ireland football final, announced his retirement from intercounty football three years ago. He opted to soldier on with his club, Killeavy, but this year decided not to play any football but to instead focus on his mangerial roles with both Killeavy and the Armagh U21s.
However, in his first year at the club helm, the former Ireland International Rules captain has been hit with a spate of injuries and unavailabilities, which has resulted in Killeavy floundering at the foot of the Division One table.
Unsurprisingly, the dividends have been instant: Killeavy's only victory from eight outings to date was secured in the last round after McDonnell - who turns 36 next month - came off the bench and rolled back the years to inspire his team to a one-point success against Carrickcruppen.
