The O'Fiaich Cup, which was revived last December after a long absence from the GAA calendar, has been postponed until the New Year because of Armagh's extended run in this year's All-Ireland SFC.

As All-Ireland quarter-finalists, the Orchard County were not allowed to resume collective training until last Monday, December 8. And without the host county, the O'Fiaich Cup was unable to proceed, meaning the organisers have had to put the tournament on hold until after Christmas.

With the pre-season McKenna and O'Byrne Cup competitions getting underway on the first weekend of January and the Allianz League starting four weeks later, they could struggle to find a suitable slot for the tournament, however.

Named after the late Cardinal Tomas O'Fiaich, the competition - run by the Crossmaglen club in conjunction with the Armagh county board - was due to commence last Saturday with the staging of two semi-finals, Armagh v Louth and Derry v Tyrone, with the final slated for this Saturday.

Derry are the holders after beating Armagh in the final after extra-time this time last year.
