Armagh SFC: Cross' to defend title against Harps

October 06, 2014

Crossmaglen's David McKenna

Crossmaglen qualified for their 18th Armagh SFC final in 19 years thanks to a 0-18 to 0-12 victory over St. Patrick's, Cullyhanna at the Athletic Grounds yesterday.

It was also a good day for Armagh Harps who defeated Maghery by 2-12 to 1-9 to book their place in the decider for the first time since 2009.

Cross' led by 0-9 to 0-5 at the break, but they struggled to shake off a determined St. Pat's side who battled back after the restart with scores from Gary McCooey, Michael Murray, Tony Donnelly and Eugene Casey.

However, the introduction of experienced David McKenna to the Rangers' midfield proved crucial as they pulled away in the final quarter with scores from another sub Padraig Stuttard, Aaron Kernan, Kyle Carragher and Tony Kernan.

In the other semi-final, Armagh Harps staged a fine second half recovery to beat Maghery. Paul Forker's eighth minute goal helped Maghery to a 1-5 to 0-3 interval lead, but second half goals from Paddey McCoy and Declan McKenna, and a 10-point haul from free-taker Ultan Lennon, turned the tide for the city side.
