Shane O'Neills club notes

August 31, 2014

Senior Men
Having defeated Killeavy in the championship qualifier last week-end the senior men have been paired against Annaghmore in the next round. The game is scheduled to take place next Monday night, 8th September at 8.00pm in the Athletic Grounds.

Minor Boys

A fantastic second-half display from our minors last Monday night saw them qualify for the semi-final of the championship. Madden were the visitors to Camlough last Monday and they were slightly the better team in the opening half and they led by four at the break,   2 - 4 to 0 - 4 with Mark McCabe, Ryan Quinn, Robbie Philpott and Garth O'Neill getting the Shanes scores. The second-half belonged to the Shanes and they completely bossed proceedings, keeping their opponents scoreless whilst scoring a further 1 - 8 themselves, the scores coming from Matthew Girvan 1 - 3, Mark McCabe 0 - 3, Gareth O'Neill 0 - 1 and Matthew Barr 0 - 1. Next up for the lads is the championship semi-final against Clann Eireann on Monday 1st September in Keady with a 6.45pm throw-in and all players are asked to meet at the club at 5.30pm.

Minor Girls

Our minor girls are also in championship action this Monday evening with a home quarter-final against Armagh Harps at 6.45pm.

U16 Girls

Our U16 girls travelled to Cullyhanna last Monday night to play St Patricks in a league fixture. Both teams had to endure wet and windy conditions throughout the game which made it extremely difficult to get into a good flow of play. The Shanes were a little off the pace during the first-half but improved dramatically in an exciting second-half in which they outscored their opponents but fell short by a few points at the final whistle. Both teams deserve praise for an entertaining hour of football considering the terrible playing conditions.
Hopefully the game will serve as a good preparation for Sunday's championship final against Clann Eireann which is set for 6.15pm in Mullabrack. Unfortunately the result was unknown at the time of going to press.

U14 Boys

Our U14 boys amalgamation of Naomh Lorcan O'Neills were involved in cracking shield quarter-final against Mullaghbawn last Tuesday evening. The young O'Neills side led by two at the break 2- 4 to 1 - 5 following a great first-half of football. The second-half continued in the same way with both sides going all out for the win but in the end it was the amalgamated side who ran out winners by a few scores. The scorers on the night were: R Savage 4 - 1, C Feely 1 - 1, M McParland 0 - 2, J McParland 0 - 2, C Mackin 0 - 1, M Carragher 0 - 1 and S Finnegan 0 - 1. The lads now play Lower Creggan in the semi-final of the shield at Shane O'Neills on Tuesday evening at 6.45pm - all players to meet at the club at 6.00pm.

U14 Girls

The U-14s girls played Clann Eireann in the U14 A championship final on Thursday evening last in Grange. Playing with the advantage of a strong breeze Clan Eireann got off to the ideal start with two early goals. The Shane's were slow settling but came into the game in the middle of the half with a good goal from Jessica Watters. In the remaining minutes of the first-half Clann Eireann stormed ahead with a few more scores. The Shane's girls showed great character in the second-half, playing right until  the end and battling for every ball although well behind on the scoreboard. Sorcha McDonnell, Jessica Watters and Kirsty Murphy got some good scores in the half. The girls can be very proud of their achievements in 2014 getting to the A Championship Final and still in contention for Division 1, in second place with only two games remaining. Training continues on Tuesday evening at 6pm.

U12 Boys

Our U12 boys amalgamation of Naomh Lorcan O'Neills were in action last Thursday night against Correnshigo in what proved to be a very entertaining game. The young O'Neills side had the better of the first-half and led by a few scores at the break. The second-half was a closely fought affair but Correnshigo got a couple of late scores to claim a narrow win.

U12 Girls

The U12 girls have a few league games remaining, starting with an away game to Clann Eireann on Monday 1st September at 7pm. Please meet at club at 5.45pm sharp.
