Preview: SFC qualifier: Roscommon v Armagh

July 19, 2014

Hyde Park Roscommon. INPHO
Armagh manager Paul Grimley is justifiably wary of today's All-Ireland SFC qualifier trip to Roscommon.

Despite their morale-boosting 0-13 to 0-10 victory over Tyrone in Omagh last weekend, Grimley and his Orchard County players know they wouldn't get anything handed to them easy in Dr Hyde Park.

"Not too many teams relish playing there and after the manner in which they overcame Cavan last weekend, the Roscommon team can justifiably expect that their fans will be out in force to see them play against us."

Grimley's Roscommon counterpart John Evans is singing off a similar hymn sheet.

"You look at what Armagh did to Tyrone. They seem to be going really well. They've been relegated to Division Three, but they've established a newly found confidence in the championship. Kieran McGeeney has made a big impact with them."

McGeeney's influence was plain for all to see in Armagh's displays in the drawn Ulster semi-final against Monaghan and the win over Tyrone.

Roscommon, meanwhile, showed their ruthless streak when dismantling Cavan by 0-16 to 0-5 in Breffni Park.

It's a difficult one to call but home advantage could swing the tie in the Rossies' favour.

Verdict - Roscommon.
