Shane O'Neill's club notes
April 14, 2014
EGM
An EGM will take place in the club this Tuesday evening, 15th April at 7.30pm to discuss the ongoing fundraising draw and other future development around the club. It is vitally important that everyone associated with the club attend this meeting.
Senior Men
Our senior men opened their league campaign on Sunday afternoon with a disappointing defeat away to Annaghmore. The Shanes trailed mid-way through the first-half but they fought their way back into the contest and the sides went in at the break all-square. However the second-half belonged to the home side and they went on to run convincing winners on a score-line of 2 - 15 to 0 - 11.
Senior Ladies
Our senior girls got their season off to a winning start last week with a hard earned victory over a very resolute Forkhill team. Playing with a strong breeze at their backs in the opening half the Shanes hit seven first-half goals to give them a healthy half-time advantage. Whilst Forkhill tried hard to get back into the game in the second-half the Shanes defended the lead very well and never looked in any danger to run out comfortable winners.
Minor Boys
Our minor boys fell to a disappointing defeat against Doire Mor Gaels on Monday night. The first-half was a tightly fought affair and the Shanes went in at the break trailing by a single point, 1 - 6 to 1 - 5. However Doire Mor Gaels played the better football throughout the second period and ran out fully deserving winners on a score-line of 3 - 13 to 1 - 9. The minors are home on Monday night to Derrynoose at 6.45pm. All players are asked to be at the club no later than 6.00pm.
Minor Girls
Our minor girls continue to train on Thursday night at 7.00pm in St Paul's field.
U16 Boys
Our U16 boys had no league game last week but they played a challenge game against Killeavy on Sunday morning and ran out impressive six point winners, 6 - 10 to 5 - 7. They return to action this Thursday evening with an away game against O'Doirnin Blues.
U16 Girls
Our U16 girls are also training on Thursday night at 7.00pm in St Paul's field.
U14 Boys
Our U14 boy's amalgamation of Naomh Lorcan O'Neills had their first league of the year last year away to Lower Creggan. The game proved to be a very closely fought affair but with just minutes left on the clock Naomh Lorcan O'Neills led by six. However two late goals from the home side saw the game end all-square. The lads have no game this Thursday night but they were in action in the Charlie Grant Memorial Tournament against Carrickcruppen on Sunday evening. The result was unknown at the time of going to press.
U14 Girls
Training continues this Tuesday evening at 6.30pm in St Paul's field and all girls are asked to be in attendance.
U12 Boys
Our U12 boy's amalgamation of Naomh Lorcan O'Neills had a challenge game against Carrickcruppen in the Shanes on Thursday evening. By all accounts the match was a very entertaining affair with all the young players playing some great football and credit must go to them all. A special mention must go to young Eoghan Jones who refereed the match, his first game in charge since completing his refereeing course a few weeks ago…well done Eoghan.

Well done also to our underage footballer Aisling McKenna who took part in the in Cumann na mBunscoil game during half-time at Armagh's recent National League game.

Senior Men Sponsorship Scheme

[email protected] or simply ask one of the senior players.
Grab Your Whistle
Peter Lynch is the contact for anyone who would like to do the introductory referee course for ladies football.... known as "Grab Your Whistle". Even if you do not feel confident enough yet to referee competitive matches, this course will give you a solid grounding in all the rules and how they are applied. Perhaps after going through the course you may feel able to begin on the whistle...maybe at U-12 level games.
Country & Western Night
The club is hosting a Country & Western night on Saturday May 3rd. There will be a £5.00 entry fee to the event which includes entry into a draw for 2 x Garth Brooks tickets for his concert on 27th July. The night will include a BBQ, country and western karaoke, rodeo bull competition, rifle range; line dancing with plenty of prizes on offer including best dressed Cowboy and Cowgirl. More information will be available over the coming weeks.

Last weeks winning lotto numbers were 9, 10, 12 & 20. There were no jackpot winners and 2 x match three winners. The jackpot now stands at £4550.
Condolences
The club would like to offer its sympathy to the family of Annie McArdle who died last week. Annie was the mother of our U14 girls' manager Paul McArdle and grandmother of our underage player Orlaith McArdle. Condolences also to the family of Eithne McArdle who died at the week-end. Eithne was the sister of our club, committee and Cairde member Joe Brady and aunt of our senior players Damien and Mícheál Brady.
