Down and Armagh greats to meet in memorial match for Karl Heaney

Former Down and Armagh footballers will this weekend pull on the boots once again for a charity fundraiser match to mark the first anniversary of Karl Heaney's tragic death.

The game between the 'Armagh Avengers' and the 'Down Defenders' will take place at Ballyholland GAC on Saturday, May 18 at 5pm and will feature former county stars such as Steven McDonnell, Benny Coulter, Shane Mulholland, Justin McNulty and Mickey Linden. It will be played on the eve of the Ulster SFC quarter-final between the same two counties at Pairc Esler. 

A player with Newry Mitchels GFC, 27-year-old Karl died in a two-vehicle collision between Banbridge and Dromore on May 23 last. Organised by the his girlfriend Ciara Sands, the Karl Heaney Marvellous Memorial Match will raise funds for two local charities - Road Safe NI Newry Mourne & Down and Head Injury Support Newry.
