'We out-Fermanaghed Fermanagh'

Jim McCorry during his reign with Down

Quote of the weekend must go to Armagh assistant manager Jim McCorry who claimed his side "out-Fermanaghed Fermanagh" in Crossmaglen on Saturday.

Taking a leaf out of the visitors' book, Armagh defended brilliantly while posting 1-4 against the wind at the other end to win by 1-9 to 0-6 and put a dent in the Erne County's bid for promotion to Division 1 of the Allianz Football League.

"We controlled the game, we hit them on breaks and to use Kieran's (McGeeney) term, we 'out-Fermanaghed, Fermanagh.' That was the important bit," McCorry told the media in the absence of suspended Armagh manager Kieran McGeeney.

"It was always going to be a game of attrition. A dour game in Crossmaglen, so we are very pleased to come away with two points and be safe for next year, it is a very young squad, they have worked very hard and should have a couple more points than we do, but that is a learning for us next year."
