Tyrone’s ‘man-of-the-match’ Darren McCurry compared the intensity of last night’s Dr McKenna Cup final against Armagh to championship football.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the corner-forward – who posted 0-9 in his team’s 0-16 to 0-14 success – said the Red Hands expected a tough encounter and that’s what they got from the Orchard County.

“It was a great game, it was very physical and you expect nothing less coming down to Armagh’s home patch.

“It was great for the supporters as well, there was a lot of contact and there was some great scores there as well. It was great to get the win.”

The 11,318 supporters that turned up certainly got value for money.

“It was absolutely class, it was like playing in a championship match. That’s what you want coming to a McKenna Cup final, a big crowd and the crowd get what they paid in for,” he added.

“A great match, great atmosphere and great rivalry. That’s what Armagh and Tyrone has always been about and it’s great to see.”
