Jarlath Burns has ruled himself out of the running to succeed Paraic Duffy as GAA director-general.

The former Armagh skipper has confirmed to the Irish News that he hasn't applied for the position. Instead, he will run for the GAA presidency in two years' time when new president John Horan's successor will be elected.

The GAA is expected to reveal the identity of its new girector-general soon, with former Tipperary All-Ireland winning manager Liam Sheedy, GAA Director of Finance Tom Ryan and Ken Spratt, a leading civil servant who has served in six government departments and has worked as a diplomat at the Irish Embassy in Washington, thought to be the main contenders.
