The popular Ulster U21 club football tournament got underway at the weekend when Lavey (Derry), Southern Gaels (Cavan) and Carryduff (Down) booked semi-final places.

A Shea Downey goal late in the first half paved the way for Lavey's 2-7 to 0-5 quarter-final victory over Galbally (Tyrone), while Cian Madden and Thomas Galligan inspired Southern Gaels to a 1-11 to 1-10 win over Crossmaglen Rangers (Armagh). In the other quarter-final, Down senior panellist James Guinness bagged 1-8 for Carryduff in a 2-13 to 0-9 defeat of Fermanagh's Enniskillen Gaels.

Donegal senior Michael Carroll was the among the goals as Gweedore overcame O'Donovan Rossa (Antrim) by 4-7 to 1-5 in the only preliminary round tie to set up a quarter-final meeting with Monaghan kingpins Donaghmoyne next Sunday.
