Garda College manager Andrew Lacey has branded the University of Ulster Jordanstown as "strong favourites" for the Sigerson Cup.

Lacey was speaking after his side's 2-14 to 0-11 defeat at the hands of the Belfast students yesterday at Jordanstown, where Donegal star Paddy McBearty (1-6) did irreversible damage for the hosts.

The underdogs had held their own for 50 minutes before succumbing to a side which also boasted Mayo's Evan Regan and 2014 'Footballer of the Year' Ryan McHugh in their ranks.

"You're watching Sunday Sport and you're looking at five or six lads you're going to be facing on Tuesday," Lacey said afterwards.

He added: "Their class showed at different times, they got some wonderful scores and when they smelled blood they kicked on. They're strong favourites now, without a doubt."
