A headed goal from Mattie Forde was one of the highlights as Ulster beat Rest of Ireland by 8-11 to 5-11 at Newcastle last night.

Around 2,000 spectators flocked to the County Down venue for an entertaining charity match featuring a hosts of intercounty stars of the past, which saw host club Bryansford raise £1,000 for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.

Marty Morrissey duly provided witty commentary from the sideline as Paddy Cunningham bagged the opening goal and Forde headed home Rest of Ireland's third on the stroke of half time to establish a 3-7 to 1-7 interval lead.

Ulster roared ahead with goals from Stevie McDonnell, Benny Coulter (2), Ambrose Rogers and Cunningham. After ROI replied with majors from a Mossie Quinn penalty and a Daniel McCartan own goal, Ulster sealed victory with McCartan and McDonnell three-pointers.
