Antrim's hurlers have released a statement following their shock relegation to Division 2A of the national hurling league.

The Glensmen made the drop when they were sensationally defeated by Kerry in Saturday's promotion / relegation play-off at Parnell Park and the players have since taken the unusual step of releasing an official statement accepting full responsibility for the setback and publicly backing manager Kevin Ryan:

"We the Antrim senior hurling panel fully support our manager Kevin Ryan. We take full responsibility for our recent performances," the statement reads.

"Our relegation has hurt no one more than this group of players. We will strive to improve and move forward as proud Antrim hurlers towards Championship."

County chairman Jim Murray and Coiste Bainisti have also endorsed the under-fire management team ahead of the Leinster championship.
