Antrim's woes at missing out on promotion to Division 3 have been compounded by the news that midfielder Michael McCann has left the panel.

The 2009 All Star nominee didn't make the trip to Tullamore yesterday for the Saffrons'  1-17 to 1-13 defeat at the hands of Offaly.

A County Board spokesperson has confirmed to The Irish Times that McCann and his brother Tomas have opted out of Frank Fitzsimons' squad due to work commitments.

"He's a huge loss and we're disappointed but we accept it's a crucial time for the two of them with their new family business.

"The door will remain open though through the Spring for a return."
