The hurling leagues got off to an exciting start over the weekend, here's our team of the week ...

1. James Dempsey (Offaly)

Laois were left to rue two missed penalties on Saturday evening with the Offaly custodian stopping Zane Keenan's second attempt on the line before Paddy Murphy sent over the insurance point.

2. Shane Power (Westmeath)

Westmeath got their Division 2A campaign off to a winning start against London and corner-back Power was one of the Lake County's stand-out performers.

3. Michael Carton (Dublin)

The O'Toole's man continued to impress in the number three jersey as Ger Cunningham's charges scored a surprisingly convincing victory over Tipperary at Parnell Park.

4. Paul Murphy (Kilkenny)

Had his hands full with Paudie O'Sullivan early on but grew in stature in his new full-back role as the game progressed and his direct opponent was replaced during the second-half.

5. David Young (Kildare)

Young's recruitment from Tipperary is a massive boost for Kildare hurling and the Toomevara clubman proved his worth in their 10-point victory over Meath.

6. Iarla Tannian (Galway)

The versatile Tannian was a prominent figure for the Tribesmen as they edged a close encounter against Clare in Salthill.

7. Conal Keaney (Dublin)

Ger Cunningham's decision to position the supremely talented Keaney in the half-back line against Tipperary proved to be an inspired one.

8. Paddy Henry (Derry)

Midfielder Henry top-scored for Derry with nine points but they had to settle for a share of the Division 2A spoils against a below-par Kerry.

9. Paul Browne (Limerick)

The Treaty County's midfield dynamo raided forward to raise four white flags against Waterford but had to be content with a draw at the final whistle.

10. Sean Murphy (Carlow)

Half-forward Murphy made the scoresheet with three points as the Barrowsiders inflicted a comprehensive 17-point defeat on their neighbours Wicklow.

11. Johnny Glynn (Galway)

The Ardrahan clubman was involved in the build-up to Galway's two goals against Clare and also chipped in with two crucial points.

12. Walter Walsh (Kilkenny)

The physically imposing Walsh gave Cork centre-back Mark Ellis his fill of it and sent over three points as the Cats made a winning start to 2015.

13. Shane Dooley (Offaly)

The gifted Dooley was Laois' tormentor-in-chief, finishing with an impressive 1-14 to his name, as Offaly secured the local bragging rights,

14. Jack Guiney (Wexford)

Guiney's return of nine points was vital as the Model County had to dig deep to see off the determined challenge of Antrim in Division 1B.

15. Richie Hogan (Kilkenny)

The Hurler of the Year's switch to the full-forward line reaped handsome rewards for the Cats as he shot 11 points against the Rebels.
