"To lose in the manner we did was just sickening"

St Mary's University coach Paddy Tally says a poor refereeing decision cost his side victory in yesterday's Sigerson Cup quarter-final clash against DCU.

Tally's charges lost out to their Dublin visitors after extra-time on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-11 and the Derry selector pinpointed Ryan Johnston's sending-off by referee Ciaran Branagan just before half-time as a 'game-changer'.

"It was a devastating decision, a real game-changer," an angry Tally said to The Belfast Telegraph.

"He merely attempted to brush off a DCU player, I could not believe it when the referee sent him off.

"I thought when we were down to 14 men we played heroically and to lose in the manner we did was just sickening. It's time the GAA took a fresh look at the tackle law.

"Even the DCU management agreed that never in a million years should Ryan have been sent off. What does that tell you?"
