Alan Davidson in action for Ballymena.

Ballymena United midfielder Alan Davidson has quit the Irish League outfit to concentrate on playing Gaelic football.

Davidson's contract was terminated by mutual consent last night, just three days before Ballymena are due to face holders Cliftonville in the League Cup final at Windsor Park. The 26-year-old has been praised after he donated his final month's wages to a charity of the club's choice.

Davidson played for Newry City and Glenavon before joining the Co. Antrim club in February 2012.
