Paddy welcomes Fitzsimons' appointment

Paddy Cunningham has endorsed Frank Fitzsimons' appointment as Antrim's new football manager.

Fitzsimons, who takes over the reins from Liam Bradley, is a fellow Lamh Dhearg club-mate of Cunningham's. Indeed, he was in charge of the Lamh Dhearg team which lost last night's Antrim SFC quarter-final to Cargin by 0-7 to 0-11 at Ahoghill.

Fitzsimons has also spent three years as Antrim U21 manager and his familiarity with the young talent in the county is a major plus, according to the long-serving Cunningham.

"I'm not sure what Frank's backroom team is going to be, but I've obviously worked under him at our club. His work ethic is second to none and you're always delighted to see a fellow clubman do well," Cunningham tells the Irish News.

"Frank knows what's coming through and there is a good knowledge base there. He would know every player around the age of 22 or 23. Frank would go to watch a match in Timbuktu if it was on!

"He knows what's available and, to be fair, he was popular with all the members of the panel last season and I'd wish him all the best."
