Ulster Council sticking to guns on hurling final date

July 03, 2014

Down and Derry must meet again for a place in the Ulster SHC decider.
The Ulster SHC final remains fixed for Sunday week, July 13, meaning the winners of this weekend's semi-final replay between Down and Derry will be facing three championship games in as many weeks.

The replay has been slated for the Athletic Grounds at 3pm on Saturday after the sides finished level on a 3-28 to 5-22 scoreline after 100 minutes of hurling in Clones last Sunday.

There had been speculation that the replay winners would be given more time to prepare for the showpiece game against holders Antrim but, after the 2013 final wasn't played until February of this year, Ulster chiefs are understandably keen to ensure there is no such hold ups this time around.

"At the moment, we're sticking to the original date, but if any changes to the schedule are needed, we will make them after the weekend," the Ulster Council's Ryan Feeney told the Irish News.
