Charity Match - Down v Antrim 1990s teams

April 04, 2014

Proving that they still got it. The Down and Antrim teams of the 90's played a challenge match in aid of Friends of the Cancer Centre.
Sunday past, 30th March 2014, St Patrick's GAC Portaferry hosted a Charity day for the Charity - Friends of the Cancer Centre. Below is a thanks for all who helped out on the day.

St Patrick's GAC, Portaferry would like to extend a massive thank you to all who took part in some way on Sunday 30/03/14 for the Charity Match between the Down and Antrim teams from the '90s. Portaferry were privileged to host this great occasion and would like to thank all the other clubs, who co-operated and assisted on organising the event and helping out on the day. There are quite a few thanks to mention, if any people are missed out, please don't be offended. To the teams who took part and all the past players from Down and Antrim, some former greats of our game, thank you. All the fans who attended were delighted to watch the match and admire the skills of yesteryear. Also to Sean McGuiness for being there managing Down, just like the good old days. Sean also held the Auction for Henry Shefflin's signed shirt, which went to Conor Gilmore, well done Conor and thank you for the generous donation. We wish good health to Sean McGuinness and Jim Nelson. To the U10 teams who started the day off, the future of our counties, and to all mentors involved, thank you. To the officials who kept the games going, Conor Woods, Gareth Johnson, Hugh Pat McCusker, Mick Blair and Sean Fitzimmons. To Eimear Dynes for singing the National Anthem, and to Liam McVeigh for taking all the photos. To those who collected donations at the gates, car park attendants, the raffle ticket collectors, those who made the food, drinks, etc. To Tracey Faye of Deli-licious Café, for her help and use of equipment. Also to 'Whatever Next' for singing and entertaining the crowd. Without all these people the day wouldn't have went so smoothly. A final total has yet to be confirmed, but it seems a lot of money has been raised for the Charity, Friends of the Cancer Centre. So a big thank you to all who donated for this very worthy cause. It was already being talked about on Sunday evening of a return leg in Antrim next year; this would be great to see. Bring it on.
