Down 1-16

Antrim 0-11

Aaron Devlin scored the only goal nine minutes from the end as Down cruised to victory over Antrim in the first round of the Ulster U20FC at St Tiernach's Park.

Played as a curtain-raiser to the Ulster SFC final between Donegal and Cavan, the game never reached any great heights with Down leading from pillar to post. With Seamus Loughran, Ross Carr and Liam Kerr in fine scoring form, the winners took a 0-10 to 0-3 lead into the break, with John McCaffery, Paul Shivers and Tiernan McAteer replying for the Saffrons.

The Mournemen extended their advantage on the restart through Declan McClements and Loughran before Devlin's strike made it 1-14 to 0-5.

Antrim rallied with late points from Rory Brolly, Dominic McAteer and Eoghan McCabe to put a better complexion on the scoreboard.

Next up for Down is a trip to Healy Park to face Tyrone next week.
