There were significant victories for Kilkenny, Cork and Clare in the top flight this past weekend while Dublin enjoyed a fine win over Waterford in Division 1B. Here is our hurling team of the week…

1. Eoin Murphy (Kilkenny)

The ever-reliable Murphy broke Tipperary hearts with two late long range frees that saw the Cats claim the spoils in Semple Stadium.

2. Paul Murphy (Kilkenny)

The Kilkenny defence didn’t cover themselves in glory in round 3 against Limerick but this was a much improved display from Murphy & Co.

3. Conor Delaney (Kilkenny)

The Cats full-back line proved to be the rock on which many a Premier County attack perished.

4. Paddy Smyth (Dublin)

Smyth caught the eye in defence as Mattie Kenny’s charges scraped over the line against Waterford in Parnell Park.

5. Ryan Mullaney (Laois)

The Castletown clubman produced another competent display in the O’Moore County’s half-back line in the local derby stalemate with Carlow.

6. Tim O’Mahony (Cork)

The Rebel County number six stood out as they inflicted a first Allianz HL Division 1A defeat on high flying Limerick.

7. David Fitzgerald (Clare)

Fitzgerald and the Banner County edged out Wexford in an entertaining tussle at Cusack Park.

8. Jamie Barron (Waterford)

The Deise left Parnell Park empty-handed but that was through no fault of Barron’s who was one of his team’s better performers.

9. Rory O’Connor (Wexford)

O’Connor registered 0-5 (four from play) but his efforts proved to be in vain against the Banner County.

10. Diarmuid Ryan (Clare)

The Clare newcomer found the target with four points in their three-point victory.

11. Danny Sutcliffe (Dublin)

Sutcliffe was a constant thorn in the side of the Waterford defence and raised four white flags in their Division 1B victory.

12. John O’Dwyer (Tipperary)

‘Bubbles’ posed plenty of problems for the Kilkenny defence and raised four white flags for Liam Sheedy’s side.

13. Podge Collins (Clare)

Live wire Collins played a prominent role in the win over Wexford and contributed three points to his county’s cause.

14. Seamus Harnedy (Cork)

The work-rate of Harnedy & Co was a particularly pleasing aspect of the win over the All-Ireland champions for Rebel boss John Meyler.

15. Patrick Horgan (Cork)

Once again, Horgan’s accuracy from placed balls - he finished with 1-9 to his name - was a key ingredient in Cork’s winning formula.
