Dunderry's Tadhg Dowd

Dunderry 1-15 Donaghmore/Ashbourne 3-6

Dunderry second string with a home draw faced up to their divisional opponents Donaghmore Ashbourne in Rd 2 of the league. Donaghmore Ashbourne were coming to the contest after a convincing win in Rd 1 over Kilmessan while the home outfit had a bye.

The home team fielded for the match short of some regular players and took to the pitch with 16 available for selection.

Dunderry while enjoying the majority of possession were guilty of some wayward shooting and some squandered goal line opportunities in the first half. P Casey (injury) was replaced by D O'Driscoll 20mins into the first half leaving the replacement bench bare. The home team went into the break 2pts in arrears (Dunderry 0-5 DA 1-2).

The second half started with greater effort and determination shown by the home side, they had to try and withstand penetrating runs by the opposition which yielded Donaghmore Ashbourne 2 further goals. On 40mins D O'Driscoll (injury) had to leave the field of play leaving Dunderry with 14 players that Donaghmore Ashbourne to their credit matched.

Trailing by 9pts at one stage in the second half following the flurry of goals the home team redoubled their efforts and began to exert a strangle hold in the defense and middle third of the field which resulted in several free opportunities duly converted and an attacking base from which to supply the ever improving forward unit.

The Dunderry side gradually hauled back and overtook the visitors to finish the match 3pts to the good and occupy 3rd place in the table. Their next fixture is away to table toppers Kildalkey on Sunday 19th May at 11:00.
