Dunderry's Ben Clarke

Dunderry 2-17 O'Mahonys 2 -5

Dunderry made it four wins from four in the FL Division 8 with a 12 point victory over O'Mahonys.

The game was tight for much of the hour and there was only clear daylight between the two teams when substitute Davy Quinn hit the top corner for Dunderry with a smashing goal half way through the second half to put 7 points between the teams. Dunderry added 5 more points without reply before the end to win comfortably in the end.

Playing against a slight breeze in the first half, Dunderry struggled to break down a dogged O'Mahonys side. Ben Clarke showed his class for Dunderry with four first half points, while Tadhg Dowd and Darragh Fay both broke from the defense to score excellent points. O'Mahonys capitalised on a mistake in the Dunderry defence to get in for a goal and they made use of the breeze to take a one point lead in to half time.

Half time score O'Mahonys 1-4, Dunderry 0-6

Dunderry raised their level in the second half with the half back line of Fay, Jamie Duffy and Josh Cosgrove prominent winning ball and driving the team forward. O'Mahonys however got a scrappy goal against the run of play, which kept them ahead early in the half.

This was to be as good as it got for the Navan side as Dunderry grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, playing good football and using their superior fitness to grind their opponents down.

Bob Doherty was to the fore in the forwards, replying to the O'Mahonys goal quickly with one of his own following a good team move. Bob would have a prominent role in the second half and would add three more points before the end.

Davy Quinn was introduced to the half back line for the final quarter and didn't take long to go on a ramble up the field, ghosting inside the O'Mahonys 21, receiving a pass and sending a fantastic goal to the top corner from an angle. This made it 2-12 to 2-5 in Dunderrys favour and gave the team in black and white some breathing space. Davy was still celebrating the goal when the ball fell into his arms again and he added to his tally when he slotted over the bar with the right foot. As he was slowly making his way back to the half back line, the ball fell to Davy again and with his confidence up he had a go on the left foot, with the ball going narrowly wide this time. Job done, Davy did eventually make it back to the half back line.

Dunderry tacked on some more lovely scores in the second half as Conor Sheridan, Ben Clarke and Jack Conneely got two apiece. Rian Fay had a great impact in the second half and underlined his performance with a well taken score of his own.

There was eight different scorers for Dunderry in a good team performance. This win put Dunderry top of the Division 8 standings after four games. Dunderry travel next week to take on Ballivor and Blackhall Gaels, hoping to keep up recent form.

Best for the winners were Darragh Fay, Cosgrove,  Clarke and big impact off the bench from Davey Quinn.
