Tyrone and Kerry set for All-Ireland U20FC final showdown

Tyrone will play Kerry in the All-Ireland U20 football championship final next Saturday after both sides came through their respective semi-finals today.

The Red Hands recovered from the concession of an early Shane McGinley goal to defeat Tyrone by 3-18 to 3-8 at Kingspan Breffni.

Goals from Conor O’Neill and Shea O’Hare saw the Ulster champions taking control to move towards a 2-9 to 1-5 half-time lead and, even after Conor Ryan and skipper Bobby Nugent got goals back for the Rossies early in the restart, Tyrone were able to take control again.

The scoreboard read 2-14 to 3-6 when Eoin McElholm rolled in the victors’ third goal on 47 minutes and they’d go on to record a 10-point win in the end.

In Thurles, the margin was just a single point as Kerry edged Meath by 0-12 to 0-11 to reach their county’s first Clarke Cup decider in 16 years.

Little separated these sides throughout, as the points of Cormac Dillon and Luke Crowley were enough for the Kingdom to take in a 0-8 to 0-7 lead at the interval.

Meath levelled three minutes into the resumption via Jack Kinlough ahead of Crowley and Dillon putting some daylight between them again.

Charlie O’Connor’s points made it 0-10 to 0-9 on 41 minutes and the Royals would have their chances to tie it up again but, in the end, the scores of Dillon and Paddy Lane would be enough for Tomás Ó Sé’s lads to end their county’s semi-final hoodoo in this grade as they now get set to meet Tyrone on May 18th.
