Replying To ForeverBlue2:  "All joking aside the huge drop in attendances is really down to the big wigs in the GAA taking their eye of the ball and solely concentrating on income and revenue flow… They thought the crowds would continue to flow in so they saturated the the competitions with far too many fixtures…. but the people wised up and stayed away as there is no jeopardy in all these meaningless games… It's only when in becomes a knockout that fans will get interested again…. There will always be an odd outlier game like Sundays Ulster Final but those games are very much in the minority at this stage… So the type of a crowd at Croke Park ( 23k ) is a real wake up call for the GAA but they don't seem to see the problem…."
Spot on. Way too many intercounty games these days.

As I was saying hurling is not your thing (North Antrim and bits of Down excepted) so you wouldn't understand what supporting a duel county is like, in fact Cavan barely does the bare minimum anyway. Also not to mention Dublin Ladies Football and Camogie where also on over the weekend as well BTW I am not moaning but I have neither the time or the money to support "all" of Dublin."
That whole "duel" thing should be left back in the 18th century where it belongs. Barbarous that a county like Dublin would still be indulging in it in this day and age.

This from the man who told me it was down to the playing styles not competition structures as i had argued. You are some craic.

Are you stupid ..? Of course the playing style also contributes and that coupled with teams knowing they are not knocked out no matter what the result leads to supporters staying away… Why do you think the hurling is getting such big crowds…? It's miles more entertaining than football regardless of how many games are played… Football is so boring people are not silly enough to keep paying in… reducing the games would be a help but unless it becomes more enjoyable to watch people will stay away and they are right….

Folks stick to the attendances thanks................
Any idea on numbers for the weekend ahead? Big Cork crowd expected to travel to Thurles. Will Ennis be sold out again.
Not sure will football fans hold off until until knock out phase as little or no jeopardy in the group stages.

1500 in Cavan on Saturday for Ros vs Tyrone u20 All Ireland semi final. We have been in a good few of these in last 15 years and would always be a 3 - 5k attendance. Again root cause is condensed season , too many games at the same time and unseemly rush to get fixtures out of the way.

The heading is 'Attendances 2024' so it's perfectly fine to discuss why attendance figures are falling through the floor.. isn't it..? People don't really care what the exact number that's in attendance as it can be plainly seen on tv that the grounds in nearly all cases are half or more empty… What they do care about is why so few are attending matches, particularly in football…!

I'd endorse what he said tbh.
I go to most home games and with that in mind Saturday should be unmissable, fantastic team coming to salthill for the championship, but the fact that pretty much everyone qualifies from the group stages kills alot of the anticipation and tension.
I'll probably still go like but I'd assume in general the structure of the groups will affect negatively attendance on the whole.
