Replying To TheRock2121:  "We can't look past Cork, a side that ran Kerry close this year and a side who beat Mayo last year. A team we haven't won against since 2012.

Saying that, if we do get over Cork, we can't hide from the fact we are three games away from an All Ireland.

I know a lot of posters are saying we are a year or two away from winning it, but sport doesn't work like that. You can't pick or choose what year you want to win silverware.

I think physically and fitness wise we are ready. Whether we can do it or not, is a different thing but no doubt Jim and the players will give it their all, and that's all you can ask for."
Agree totally. Cork will want to put that first league game right but I'm confident Jim will have everything covered and the lads heads in the right place. We did beat Cork in 2016 in croke Park after our very disappointing Ulster final defeat. If I remember right, mcbrearty was scoring from all over the pitch that day.

Hi TheRock2121: Great points you make. What about our defense you had issues in the past with defenders. Mc Guinness wasn't happy about Tyrone getting shots away relatively unchallenged. Armagh caused us lots of issues when they ran directly at us before we got a chance to get set up. How can we address those issues.

Not sure where you are coming from saying we haven't beaten Cork since 2012?, we beat them on our last league visit to Pairc Ui Rinn. We have only met Cork once since 2012 in the championship and we beat them in Croke park, 2015 It hink. We have also beaten numerous times in the league bar a league semi final under RG

Mc Gonagle at 6 and with the introduction of Moore it has helped our defence. Curran has been very good in defence this year also but maybe lacking in attack as of yet. That could come. I also think Mc Colgan will start when he's fully fit, probably next year. Mc Cole has been excellent. Mogan, at times, it seems has been asked to do more defensive duties, occasionally playing plus one. At other times he's given that license to move forward.

Our defensive shape has been excellent. Id still question some of our one on one defending. Armagh exploited this with quick transition from their own kickouts and left us one on one where Moore and Curran did struggle a bit.. Saying that how many teams are comfortable defending ones on ones with quality forwards facing them. To solve this issue we could drop off the opposition kickout. Something to consider I guess.

Overall our defence has been very good, we aren't conceding many goals or chances.

How far will we go this year Audiman?

Yeah and if I remember rightly Cork ran through us a few times in the league game. OK it was back in January and we ended up beating them comfortably. But anyone that thinks they'll just lie back and have their bellies tickled on Saturday might be mistaken. We're 4/11 to beat them but it'll require another composed and professional performance to do so.

11 points he got that day. 7 from play. He was off the charts. He even managed one off his right foot!!!!!!

Shame this one is not on GAAGO. Don't know why they're showing Cavan v Dublin on Saturday. And for the life of me, why are they showing Kerry v Meath.
It's not the 90s anymore. Will be a training session for Kerry.

Great performance on Saturday and there weren't too many negatives apart from turnovers which resulted in scores or chances, one which was close to being a goal. There was just one other thing and that was our press which Morgan always found a way around. When they pressed Patton found it more difficult.I am sure these things will not go unnoticed by management.I am disappointed that I will miss my first game of the season due to family reasons and it is not even on TV.

Yeah I just noticed that myself. What a balls. I can't get down to Cork and it looks as though it's not going to be televised at all. It'll have to be the radio!

The question is Paddy Long Pause.... Hyperbole McGill or Oisin Kelly?

Safe travels to all from Donegal next weekend. If ye looking for a bit of grub or a pot of tea the Silver Key is quite close to the ground & in I my opinion is a good house.
Please don't go too hard on us, it could be a long afternoon for us Rebels if Jimmy's lads go full pelt.

First time I've agreed with you on this topic in a while. The team obviously had their scouting well-done for the Armagh and Tyrone matches. Tyrone in the early stages of the second half in our Ulster match showed a new way of opening the door, and Armagh were clued-in to this. McGuinness attempted to counter-act this and push Curran into that unfamiliar advanced position to try and trigger an instinctive response from Armagh to drop back, but this didn't occur, as Armagh continued with the correct game-plan, playing lateral balls, collecting easy marks, and isolating the running full-backs as much as possible, i.e. Moore and Curran.

Substituting Moore and Curran wasn't necessarily a master-stroke, but what I do believe is that when you're out on the pitch, performing well but losing the tactical battle and a manager like McGuinness makes a change taking two designated full-backs out for two half-forwards, you can't help but feel something like "my manager has got something up his sleeve and we will turn this around." The team continued to leak scores in a similar manner, but the attacking play benefitted.

At the weekend, watching Tyrone's defensive set-up, they expected Donegal to play exactly like they had earlier in the season, and of course they didn't. They were non-committal in the tackle, and their best work was done in thwarting counter-attacks rather than scores from Donegal possession. McCurry scored more points from play on Saturday than he did in his last three attempts combined whilst Curran was on him, but their possession base was so poor otherwise they couldn't capitalise on many one-on-one scenarios.

Plenty guys not the finished article yet. Moore and Curran both have someway to go to reach their best levels. McGuinness will be running them lads like dogs to squeeze that point or two a match out of them, just as he did with McGlynn and Lacey. Season's not over for anybody, and I hope McColgan also gets minutes in the next two matches. Expect Curran to start next two.

I had to YouTube those highlights, indeed he did get an early point off the right peg even if he was fairly close to the posts! Definitely one of his best ever performances. Some lovely scores in that game from Ryan too and also Eoin McHugh. Some changes in the team since then.

For those out of coverage on Saturday RnaG have excellent coverage on gaelic games. Your Donegal commentators Damien O Domhnaill and Joe O Gallachóir are both accurate and well informed. They have nationwide coverage on FM and won't be breaking away to cover racing etc. Safe journey to all undertaking the marathon return journey.
