Carnaross 3-10 Ratoath 2-10

Carnaross welcomed table toppers Ratoath to Páirc Naomh Chiarán in a refixed league encounter. When these two sides met in the reverse fixture last year, Ratoath dished out a humbling defeat in Sean Eiffe Park.

The game began at a blistering pace with talisman Paddy McDermott pointing from play inside the first 60 seconds. The visitors replied 5 minutes later before pressure was applied by Darragh O’Reilly and co, resulting in a turnover that allowed McDermott to goal. Ratoath converted a free before O’Reilly himself turned from creator to finisher adding a point of his own. Ratoath began to settle and come to terms with the rugged rural surroundings when they registered a well worked goal to bring parity to proceedings. Ratoath built on this as the game entered their period of dominance. Their timed runs from deep were proving fruitful and they registered the next 1-3 as the home side’s metal was tested. However unlike last year, the Ross refused to lie down. Corner backs John Reilly and Jack Roche together with goalkeeper Conor Kenny laid their bodies on the line to prevent any further majors. Full forward Cillian Comaskey was proving himself to be a constant menace and he collected a long delivery straight from a McDermott mark to finish neatly to the net. At half time, the visitors lead 2-06 to 2-03 after an open and attack-minded half.

The second half scoreboard was dominated largely by Carnaross as they outscored their opponents 1-07 to 0-04. The O’Reilly twins added 3 points with help from their older brother Cian as they lined out in the family and club half-forward line. Coincidentally, our half back line was an all Yore affair as brothers Oisín and Cormac donned the 6 and 7 jerseys, with Shane in the number 5 shirt. Paddy McDermott added a monster free before a fine team move resulted in Darragh O’Reilly scoring a crucial goal. Ratoath stayed in touch with two points from play before McDermott added another point from the edge of the D. The game entered the crucial third quarter where every possession was vital. Both sides traded scores with the heavy pitch telling causing unforced errors. The Hoops critically hit 3 points on the spin to establish a four point with the pick of them coming from the trusty boot of powerhouse midfielder Mossy Plunkett. Ratoath tagged on a late point but the Carnaross defenders ensured no clear cut chances were created.

We now turn our attention to neighbours Drumbaragh in Round 4 of the league this Saturday evening.
