Replying To BarneyGrant:  "Offaly underage teams get huge crowds which put many senior hurling followings, including Dublin's, to shame.

Portlaoise be heaving next Wednesday, 14,500 Biffos and 500 Dubs!

Beidh mé ann!"
In Offaly's situation, it might be a case of absence makes the heart grow fonder. It's been awhile for Offaly, in both codes.

meath and louth sold out for saturday week im hearing. granted inniskeen only holds a small capacity but it'll be great for the occasion and atmosphere. much better than a bigger crowd drownded out by vast emptiness

Replying To BarneyGrant:  "Possibly, although if it is still a game of consequence they would easily fill Thurles or Limerick."
The only way it is a real game of consequence is if both Dublin and Mayo go into it have lost their opening games to Cavan and Roscommon.

All known form suggests D v MO will be to decide who goes straight to the Quarter Final.
It's a Group game so won't attract the big event types.
Probably 6,000 jackeens and similar no of Rhibarbs.
I'd suggest around 13/14k at most.

True. Still, it shows a strong connection between the community and their teams. Was one of the great features of last year's underage competitions. Some serious hurlers. Screeney is almost at Canning level at same age. Perhaps a small bit of exaggeration but close!

That definite? Dublin and Mayo league regulars alone would fill Hyde. Does of course depend on where both teams stand at last stage, but likely to be something at stake, most likely the plum first spot.

Dublin and Mayo "non event" league games draw average combined crowds of well over the capacity for Hyde.

If that's true then it's practically Mayos home ground this championship! Yell have played there more times than us.

Some crowd at the Offaly U20 match last night. Looking like another 40,000 plus crowd for the Cork match this Sunday.
