Boyne CS and Meath minor Ciaran Sheridan

Boyne Community School Trim 2-13 St. Pauls Raheny 4-8

Abbotstown was the venue for today's clash between Boyne Community School Trim of Meath and St. Pauls College Raheny of Dublin.

A Meath, Dublin rivalry that was not to disappoint with both teams going at it hammer and tongs. A very exciting and entertaining spectacle for the neutral supporter and I would like to thank Paul Fahey (Referee) for allowing the game to be played in this manner.

There was a slight breeze blowing from right to left for the boyne men in the first half and they capitalized on this right from the word go. Some excellent scores from the Boyne forwards left the scoreline five points to a single point. The first goal of the game came for the St. Paul's men where it was executed exquisitely to the net and left it 0-5 to 1-1. However this didn’t phase the Boyne men as they tagged on a couple more points after the goal. More noted as a defender young Lewis Ryan from the Summerhill club who had an outstanding game throughout provided one of the scores during this spell.

The second goal and Boyne's first goal were soon to follow. Some excellent teamwork played out the field provided Caomhin O’Neill with a chance at goal and he didn’t make any mistake with the finish. Boyne dominated for here until the end of the half with their second goal coming from Jess O'Rourke and a few quick fire points from their forwards left the scoreline at half time 2-10 to 1-2. Eleven points the difference going into the second half.

The second half saw Boyne starting with a different team to the first where 3 of their county minors were forced to watch the second half from the bench. Cathal Barron, Conal Diggins and Ciaran Sheridan who are representing Meath were under pressure with county commitments and were unable to take part.

Boyne started the second half very positively with points from Robbie Johnston who was Boyne's Man of the Match on the day, Jesse O'Rourke and Daniel Callaghan with an exquisite outside of the boot shot. Unfortunately this was as good as it got for Boyne and for the last 20 minutes St.Pauls dominated the game. 2-13 to 4-8 was the end scoreline with St.Paul’s winning by just the point in the end.

The loss of the 3 key Meath minor players for Boyne was ultimately irreplaceable, but this young Boyne team will live to fight another day.

You couldn’t fault the bravery and commitment for the Boyne players as they left everything out on the pitch with a number of standout players that included Darragh McLoughlin at full back who picked up and injury towards the end and we wish Darragh a speedy recovery, Charlie O’Connor at cornerback, Lewis Ryan at wing back, Jesse O’Rourke at corner forward and a man who has excelled all year and has a very bring future for both Dunsany and Meath Robbie Johnston. His tough tackling, silky skills and ability to take on his opponent was a joy to watch and worth the admission fee alone.
